Welcome to the Online Encyclopedia of Criminal Justice

cjencyclopedia.com has been active since March 2005 and is a work in progress. This site is being completed by students in Dr. Kenneth Mentor's courses at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The work of designing this site falls into three categories; initial entry, editing, and organization. The site includes pages in each category. We are presently working on editing and organization and will not be adding new pages until we have revised papers that fall short of our expectations.

Our goal is to create encyclopedia entries on a variety of subjects related to law, criminal justice, sociology, and criminology. As with other wiki sites, the search button on the left is a great way to search the site for topics of interest. A list of topics is also provided below. Articles are arranged in outline form under each topic. These outlines list topics for which we do not yet have articles, but in time we will be adding content, revising, and doing what we can to create a useful site for those interested in learning about criminal justice and related topics.

This site is not as open as Wikipedia, but is very close. Although you must be a registered user to edit pages, you do not need to be a student at UNCP to make contributions to this site. Educators are welcome to use this site for class assignments. The process of editing and/or contributing original entries helps students work on writing skills, citation, and other topics learned in the course of academic writing assignments. A major difference, and one that helps students understand the importance of clear and effective writing, is that we are writing in a public place. Contact Dr. Mentor for information about using this site for class assignments.

Current Topics

Many of the Advanced Criminal Law pages will be revised by UNCP students during the Fall 2009 semester. Our goal is to revise older entries to bring them closer to current standards. Some papers are not as clearly written as we would like, the author may have quit before completing, or the instructions for the assignment may not have been clear. We hope this process of revision will lead to an improved site. As always, registered users are welcome to make positive contributions to any page.

Other Topics

The next pages were prepared during previous semesters. Our work process is transparent and we have a lot of work to do throughout this site. As such, many pages are under construction. As with all other pages on the cjencyclopedia site, you are welcome to contribute.
